Here are a few articles that attempt to apply rigorous biblical theology to a variety of subjects I have had to consider over the years. They were written because circumstances outside my control drove me to it!
Where are all the elders? - Jesus have the answers...
Root of the matter: our practice isn't God's guidance. Highlighting very official pyramid structures and one man systems as opposed to 2 by 2 biblical plurality; waiting for stripling volunteers as opposed to discipling and appointing appropriate men - and a consideration of what kind of qualities we are looking for to avoid being elitist. Christ & the Ten Words, moral law & grace, OT/NT covenants
Introduced to this view via some elder brethren in Christ, and *boy* had they got some scripture back up - big time! To the point that once you've looked carefully at the biblical context of the 10 C's it becomes unarguable that they were something special.
Creation / Evolution: reasoning for a more literal reading
Building an argument from the biblical content and broader context of Genesis 1-11, marrying that with God's clarity in communication and asking, "How does the Bible want me to read Genesis 1-11? Does it have any preferences? Which fits most naturally with the whole of scripture - a more literal or a more figurative reading?"
Headship, egalitarian and complementarian arguments discussed
Feminism has been big, so this issue is mostly relevant. I believe there is a clear method for addressing difficult issues from Scripture.
Proverbs & biblical theology: riddles for the wise in Christ
That is anyone who has trusted in him. In Noah's day, it made you wise if u got inside the ark. Same thing with Christ, if you are 'in Him' on the day of his return you are both wise and in Christ... But there is a sense in which we can have that wisdom sharpened and grown. I love this book... This had been written 2003 or so for our bible study cru so we don't miss Christ out when we apply it.
- Mmmm, this one I originally wrote in 2002, but not happy to publish it w/o a bit of tinkering and further clarity in application.
- A mere 'stub' as wiki might call it, there are many others who write better on this, and as yet it has not come to my theological doorstep.
